Anderson Creek Retreat is located 75 miles north of Atlanta (view directions), near the historic communities of Dahlonega, Blue Ridge and Ellijay. Take a look at our map depicting recreational points of interest and you will understand why we say (view map) that we are in the heart of the Southern Appalachians’ finest outdoor recreation country, next door to the 750,000-acre Chattahoochee National Forest and just over the ridge from Amicalola Falls State Park and the Appalachian Trail. Whitewater Rivers and the Cohutta Wilderness, the largest wilderness east of the Mississippi, are just a stone's throw away.
Anderson Creek
Anderson Creek, running through the heart of our community, is one of the last unspoiled trout streams in Georgia. Its spring fed waters run clear after storms and the gravel streambed allows rainbow and brown trout to reproduce naturally. With headwaters just west of the Appalachian Trail in the Chattahoochee National Forest, Anderson Creek carves a twisting valley through 10,000 acres of public and private lands until it joins Tickanetley Creek and the Cartecay River near Ellijay.
The Anderson Creek Alliance, made up of private landowners in the Anderson Creek Watershed, is dedicated to preserving the integrity of Anderson Creek and the surrounding habitat. The alliance works closely with environmental groups, land trusts and governmental officials to protect Anderson Creek from careless development, poor timber management and silt and erosion caused by the illegal use of off-road vehicles.
